It took me way longer than I wanted to to see this for the first time. But finally today was the day. I have read about it and heard how great it was and it surely did not disappoint.
Myles Teller and JK Simmons just absolute 10s each on the acting. Incredible performances by both. Myles Teller plays a young drummer, who is determined to be one of the greatest most legendary drummers of all time. JK Simmons plays the band instructor as the prestigious music school Teller gets into. He is hard nose as shit and tough as nails. Absolutely no bullshit. Over the top bully.
Teller is stubborn and determined as fuck to earn not just the 1st chair on drums but truly be legendary. The two battle all movie long as Simmons sees the kids unreal talent and tries to unearth it. Teller is soft and needs this tough love. All of this evolves through the movie into one of the greatest last scenes in movie history. It truly was. It sent chills down my spine. Worth every minute of watching it.
I actually had this scored at 8.1 but I rounded it up to 8.2 simply because JK Simmons has the most hilarious and endless amount of insults that he hurls all movie long at the various band members. They are all so fucking laugh out loud funny and was worth the .1 round up.
EXCELLENT FREAKING FILM. Lived up to hype. Top last scene ever. Get to it. That is a review.
