This movie has a lot of hype. Like, people have this as one of the best movies of the last 30 years. Uh, I think those people are insane. Ok. Let me try to give you the most realistic, simple definition of this movie, and you decide if this can possibly be AN ALL TIME GREAT MOVIE.
2 magicians (Christian bale and Hugh Jackman) compete for like 1850’s England best magician. They battle head to head on who can out do who on the “best trick”. LOL. That’s it. The whole entire movie is just them competing for “best magician”. Haha.
This movie is the classic example of people seeing to A list actors and making it WAY more than it actually is. There is nothing DEEP about this movie. ZERO thought provocation. Not exceptional in any category at all. The acting is .. OK? Its not gonna blow you away.
With that being said, the story is interesting ENOUGH. The plot twist at the end is cool. There are some fun visuals. It just barely eeks out a REALLY GOOD MOVIE . Look you watch it once, ok I saw it and never again.
That is a fair and honest review of a movie. Nothing spectacular but good enough to push it past solid. That is an HONEST review. If you are obsessed with long dialogue movies based on magician feuds in the 1800’s you’re gonna go fucking crazy for this.
