DUNKIRK: 9.5

Christopher Nolans best film IMO. Which is saying a lot, since he only does masterpiece films. This movie is an ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE. No movie is perfect but it is really close.

Based on a true story, this movie shows, from 3 different vantage points, the escape of 400,000 English soldiers from Dunkirk Beach in France during WW2. Completely trapped and no where to go, this movie shows the incredible heroics it took to save these young men. One vantage point is from the soldiers stranded on the beach and their harrowing experience waiting to be saved by anyone has the Germans move closer. The second is from the fighter pilots point of view (Tom Hardy) who, I have never seen better acting with less words. Most of the movie you are only seeing Tom Hardys eyes and its just such powerful acting. The third vantage point is from one of the many local citizen boats the English Government asked of its citizens to use to go boat across the English Channel and save their soldiers.

It is visually incredible, the sound Nolan uses puts you on the edge of your seat the entire film and is wonderfully intense and fits every scene perfectly, the feels in this movie… you will cry or tear up a few times happy and sad, because their are some REALLY powerful scenes.

An amazing story, with incredible acting that is quite possibly the greatest war movie ever made. NOT war story. I am not saying that. But this might be the greatest war movie ever, based on the way the story was told, the visuals and the individual story itself. A top movie ever, forget war movie. That is a review.
