DUNE 2: 9.1

This could end up being a longer post. Buckle up. I was not sure if this was going to crack outstanding masterpiece. I actually thought it would land in the high 8’s. But it made it. An OUTSTANDING MASTERPIECE! Let me talk about all the greatness, then I will explain why I was not sure it would make it.

The greatness of this movie was it was so incredibly visually stunning. The enjoyment is a 10 out of 10. The acting is superb. It is so FUCKING interesting. The music I found like the first, to be INCREDIBLE. You have to see this in the theaters. NO other way. So you can get the full effect of the visuals and the sound.

This next edition of the Dune series picks up literally right where they left off. Carrying away a body of the man that was killed by Timmy C. A move that wins over a great amount of the Fermans proving he is the chosen one. And then the movie just TAKES OFF into the story.

We see Paul take his next step as the leader of the planet. Really coming into his own. We see his mother taking it even further. She has now become almost this mythological queen and she is pushing so hard, to all her fanatics that Paul is the second coming. She wants all the power. For her and him. The Harkannens come back to wage war with the desert folks, and results in a pretty awesome fight scene right out of the gate.

We get a few great fight scenes, some good character arc, incredible visuals, WORM RIDING, btw we need more worms, we just NEED MORE WORMS, we get some really good revelations and we get introduced to…. CRAZY FUCKING PSYCHO NEPHEW OF THE HARKANNENS. Who, we as the audience are to believe will be the one who leads them into the future.

We get to meet the emperor who realizes he is in deep trouble as his plan with the crazy ass mean ladies in the robes did not work in eliminating Paul and his mother. And that Paul is out for revenge, backed by a whole planet that controls what seems like the most valuable resource in the universe.

Zero fluff in my opinion in this film. 3 hours of just absolute madness, fighting, great dialogue and visuals. I cannot wait for the 3rd.

With that being said, the only knock I really have on this movie is the story telling. I never read the book so there are absolutely scenes where you as the viewer are confused. WHY is this spice so valuable? Why is this planet so valuable?? Why is the mother of Pauls mother, his grandma, conspiring against him so much (well we find out later) but it still leaves questions for sure. Is Paul evil now? WHO THE FUCK ARE THESE OLD LADIES AND WHY ARE THEY SO POWERFUL?! I mean very complex book from what I read so you cannot answer all of these but I had to dock points on story telling because so much to me was not told.

Outside of that, this was an absolute monster second film in the series that did not disappoint me, kept the story rolling perfectly along and set up what should be an absolute epic 3rd. That is a review.
