CIVIL WAR: 5.5

My god. I wanted to like this movie. I really did. It fit into every narrative I currently think about the USA at the moment. I think often about how we are on a doomsday crash course right into civil war. How it is completely unavoidable. How we are naive to think we aren’t. So you can imagine my disappointment when this film failed to meet the moment.

The story was fine, in theory. As it unfolded in the movie it was clunky. The cast was, on paper, great. In reality, we got a few good minutes from ALWAYS great Jessie Plumons and half a second of Nick Offerman. So , I mean, mostly Kirstin Dunst. Who I still just see as grown up cheerleader.

This movie got boring. It could have went way more deep in the world of USA in a current civil war. I mean you could have made an epic film that would double is almost a biopsy. The director chose to punt instead.

Very little action, very little depth, very little critical thinking. That’s the worst part. A movie with this name and this plot should have left me REALLY deep in thought. On the contrary, I couldn’t wait for it to end. 5.5 is generous, if I didn’t have a system it would be in the 2’s. This movie 100% fucking STINKS. Wait for a director with balls and a vision to tackle this plot. That is a review.
